Weekend Trailer Roundup

Earthling (dir. Clay Liford) - A small budget film about a woman, Judith who is having complications with her pregnancy. Meanwhile, a crew of astronauts in orbit discover a strange object floating through space. A brown out is cause globally and upon waking Judith and others begin having strange visions and make a discovery about a very important truth.

The Anachronism (dir. Matthew Gordon) - this is a short film debuting on the web April 26th. Not much is known about it apart from the trailer. I love the look of this film and am very excited about getting to see it.

Bunny and the Bull (dir. Paul King) - Released in the U.K. last year, this is a film I desperately want to come to the states screen or DVD. From the minds behind the amazing British series The Mighty Boosh, this looks to have the same surreality but with a more serious tone. Plus it stars all my favorite British comedians.

A Town Called Panic (dir. Stéphane Aubier & Vincent Patar) - A completely insane French stop motion film that looks like it would be right up the alley of fans of Cartoon Network's Adult Swim line up. Like Gumby if Hunter S. Thompson had directed it.

Weekend Trailer Roundup

Get Him to the Greek (dir.Nicholas Stoller) - Aldous Snow (Russell Brand) of Forgetting Sarah Marshall is back! He's booked to perform in L.A. and its up to a junior record executive (Jonah Hill) to get him there. Not the greatest premise but I thought Forgetting Sarah Marshall was great so I'm excited about this one.

Prodigal Sons (dir. Kimberly Reed) - Director Reed chronicles the story of her family, particularly her brothers whom she has grown estranged from as they grew older. What she discovers about her adopted bro is that he is a blood relation to Orson Welles and Rita Hayworth! Looks fascinating as hell!

Ajami (dir. Scandar Copti, Yaron Shani) - a look at inner city life in Tel Aviv. Since, 2001's docu Trembling Before G-d I have been very interested in the contemporary Israeli situation, in particular their daily life. As this film promises to show, Tel Aviv has much more in common with New York City than any holy site in the world.

Mutants (dir. David Morlet) - Not much more complicated description for this than: a French zombie movie. Have to say that alone makes me interested. Wondering if they have any interesting flourishes to add.

Zonad (dir. John Carney, Kiernan Carney) - An Irish comedy that looks to mine the same premise as the dismal K-Pax. This time around it looks like we will have a much more enjoyable film.

Lost for Words (dir. Sean Wainsteim) - A very intriguing looking film about two children becoming lost in the woods. Looks to have some literary or language elements to the conundrum the children get caught up in.

Weekend Trailer Roundup

A.D. (dir. Ben Hibbon) - the sad part about this film is it hasn't been made yet. This teaser trailer was produced to help promote the film and see if a major studio would pick it up. An adult-oriented animated zombie film with the this stylized look would be awesome.

Cemetery Junction (dir. Ricky Gervais & Stephen Merchant)- The duo who brought us The Office and Extras, has produced their first comedy-drama about a trio of friends in England in the 1970s coming to terms with their small village.

Blood into Wine (dir. Ryan Page, Christopher Pomerenke) - Though I am not a fan of the band Tool, this docu about frontman Maynard James Keenan's quest to produce wine in Arizona looks fascinating. Appearances by Milla Jovovich, Bob Odenkirk, Patton Oswalt, and Tim & Eric.

Heartless (dir. Philip Ridley) - Jim Sturgess stars as a young man hideously scarred who makes a deal with the devil to lose his marks. The result is that he must become a part of the demons roaming London and killing the innocent.

Micmacs (dir. Jean Pierre Jeunet) - The director of Amelie brings the tale of a group of strange homeless French people attempting to take down a corporation manufacturing weapons of war.

Weekend Trailer Roundup

Here are some of the best trailers I saw this week, hope you see something you like.

Cyrus (dir. The Duplass Brothers) - Premiering at Sundance, this comedy stars John C. Reilly, Marisa Tomei, and Jonah Hill. The Duplass Brothers are known primarily for their work in the mumblecore genre (improvised indie pics). Very interested in what they do with this film.

Terribly Happy (dir. Henrik Ruben Genz)- a very crazy looking Danish film, in the vein of Twin Peaks. I am there!

Babies (dir. Thomas Balmes) - a documentary following four babies (Mongolia, Namibia, Japan, and the Western US) through their first year. Yes, it is a very simple premise, but within this premise I think you could have a remarkable film.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid
(dir. Thor Freudenthal) - This book series is insanely popular with kids, I see them eat up constantly. And the film adaptation doesn't look half bad.

I Love You Phillip Morris
(dir. Glen Ficarra) - Based on a true story, Jim Carrey plays a con man who falls in love with Ewan MacGregor's title character. Looks like a very interesting comedy-drama.

Nick Nolte: No Exit
(dir.Tom Thurman) - A documentary analyzing the human freight train that is Nick Nolte. How can this not be good?!
